Lived 1924 – 2010. James Black invented a new class of drugs to treat heart disease - beta blockers, and a new class of drugs to treat stomach ulcers - histamine antagonists. He was awarded the Nobel Prize for Medicine in 1988. Black created these potent drugs using an entirely new approach to medical issues:
