When Sonic Youth began working on their seventh album, they joked that they would remake The Beatles' White Album in its entirety. As they were planning on remaking the classic album they began experimenting with electronica, beat box, and sound effects, and performing Madonna songs. The sessions turned into what would become Ciccone Youth, taking Madonna's surname as their pseudonym.
