The song was put together by Ike Turner and his band during rehearsals in Mississippi and recorded by Turner's Kings of Rhythm. Jackie Brenston was Ike's sax player and did the vocal track on "Rocket 88." The Oldsmobile 88 model was introduced in 1949.
Hace 2 días · Jackie Brenston was an alias used by the great Ike Turner (future husband of Tina Turner) to record "Rocket 88". "Rocket 88" was recorded on March 3 1951, with Sam Phillips as producer. It's my own personal selection as the earliest "pure" rock and roll recording.
