In 1996, Tyra Banks became the first Black woman to grace the cover of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, posing alongside Valeria Mazza in South Africa. The next year, Banks made her first solo appearance on the front of the magazine, continuing on her path of breaking barriers in the modeling industry.
Meanwhile, Banks continued to be involved in other projects. She appeared on such TV shows as Gossip Girl, Glee, and Black-ish. In 2009–10 Banks produced with Hollywood actor Ashton Kutcher the reality television series True Beauty. In 2011 she published Modelland, a novel for young adults. Banks began offering her own line of cosmetics in 2014.
