Derek and the Dominos were a blues rock band formed in the spring of 1970 by guitarist and singer Eric Clapton, keyboardist and singer Bobby Whitlock, bassist Carl Radle and drummer Jim Gordon.They had previously played together in Delaney & Bonnie and Friends. Dave Mason supplied additional lead guitar on early studio sessions and played at their first live gig.

Layla. " Layla " is a song written by Eric Clapton and Jim Gordon, originally recorded with their band Derek and the Dominos, as the thirteenth track from their only studio album, Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs (1970). Its contrasting movements were composed separately by Clapton and Gordon.
Despite critical acclaim for their album, Derek and the Dominos were short-lived, with Clapton disbanding the group in 1971 due to personal issues and drug addiction. The group's legacy has endured, however, with "Layla" in particular becoming one of Clapton's most iconic songs and a fixture of classic rock radio.
