Catherine was the sister of Christian; in WW2 she worked with the French Resistance but was arrested in 1944 and sent to Ravensbrück. Miraculously she survived, and was awarded both the Croix de Guerre and the Légion d’Honneur.

Catherine Dior is brought to life using known facts about her but also by incorporating the experiences of others, which adds a different dimension to the story. Obviously, her story and Christian's are intertwined and I liked the way in which this was dealt with in the book.
