The University’s Teacher Education History. The University of Southern Maine’s (USM’s) reputation for excellence in education programs was established with the founding of our original predecessor institution, the Gorham Normal School, in 1878. We developed ETEP in collaboration with southern Maine school districts in 1990.

Credits earned while abroad will count toward your academic program at USM, and your financial aid package can be used to help finance approved study abroad.

Admissions pathway for current University of Southern Maine (USM) BS in Nursing students. Current USM students in the Nursing program may apply through a reduced application process to the Masters of Nursing program. The concentrations students can apply to via this pathway are: Family Nurse Practitioner and Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner.
