The national flag of Latvia ( Latvian: Latvijas karogs) was used by independent Latvia from 1918 until the country was occupied by the Soviet Union in 1940. Its use was suppressed during Soviet rule. On 27 February 1990, shortly before the country regained its independence, the Latvian government re-adopted the traditional red-white-red flag.

3 de nov. de 2022 · Latvia became part of the USSR in 1940, after the Red Army entered and a new government was formed. After the Constitution of Latvia was changed in 1953, the symbol underwent significant changes. The basic color was still red, which took up two thirds of the flag’s area, the hammer and sickle did not disappear, but now a five-pointed star with a gold outline appeared above them.
