28 de ago. de 2023 · M.C. Millman. On September 1, 1968, the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Clown College opened its doors, giving the world a new generation of entertainers. Irvin Feld established the college in Venice, Florida, as the first school to exclusively train circus clowns. Feld was born in Maryland on May 9, 1918, to Russian-Jewish immigrants.

Madison native Peggy Williams arrived at Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Clown College in Florida in 1970 assuming everyone who applied had been picked. SHE'S STILL CLOWNING AROUND MADISON NATIVE, PEGGY WILLIAMS, THE CLOWN COLLEGE'S FIRST FEMALE CLOWN, NOW WORKS TO BRING NEW RECRUITS TO CIRCUS LIFE.
4 de mar. de 2011 · Clown College was in the fall and lasted ten weeks. At the end of Clown College, I was not offered a contract with Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus. I asked Wharton if they would allow me to begin classes that January, and they agreed. I graduated from Wharton—on time—with an M.B.A., specializing in finance and accounting.
So, then, our final clown college performance was also an audition to get into Ringling Bros circus. Now that Ringling Clown College has closed, I don't think it's needed for anything per say, but the stuff I learned there was invaluable for my future performing/writing career.
