To make matters worse, he was the first person to arrive at the pub and the last person to leave. That is to say: Stingy Jack drank from sunup to sundown for as long as anyone could remember.
Stingy Jack (also known as Jack the smith, Flakey Jack, Drunken Jack, Jack of the Lantern and by many other names) was a blacksmith and trickster. Jack was drunk, a liar, and a thief with skills that could rival the devil himself.. Jack's life of crime, and his sheer level of skill, attracted the attention of the devil, who was unhappy that someone could rival him.

After his death, he roamed the world carrying a small lantern made of a turnip with a red-hot ember from hell inside to light his way.

15 de oct. de 2018 · By the mid-1800s, Stingy Jack’s nickname was applied to the prank pumpkin lanterns that echoed his own lamp, and the pumpkin jack-o’-lantern got its name.
