  6. Across the River is the first movie that has genuinely creeped me out since Robert Wise's The Haunting. This is a mood piece: its plot and characterization are minimal (to say the least). It has a backstory for its main character and (I think) for the events that transpire, but the movie provides only hints; it doesn't bludgeon us over the head with that information.
