Polar bears can grow to 590 kg and stand 3 meters tall. Adult males normally weigh between 350 and 590 kg (772 and 1300 lb). Adult females, like Anuri, usually weigh between 150 and 295 kg (331 and 650 lb), but can get bigger in some regions.
Polar bears are an integral part of the Arctic ecosystem and the food web for Indigenous Peoples — who have hunted polar bears sustainably for millennia. But, beginning in the 1700s, large-scale hunting by European, Russian and North American hunters and trappers took place, raising concerns about the future survival of polar bears.
Male polar bears may prey on cubs if they come into contact. Females with cubs tend to avoid other bears for this reason. Historically, polar bears have been hunted by the native peoples of the arctic for fur and meat. Commercial and sport hunting of polar bears increased in the 1900s as the price of pelts reached as much as $3000.
