Philippe Descola, né le 19 juin 1949 à Paris, est un anthropologue français. Fils de l'écrivain et historien hispaniste Jean Descola, ses recherches de terrain en Amazonie équatorienne, auprès des Jivaros Achuar, ont fait de lui une des grandes figures américanistes de l'anthropologie.

Philippe Descola initially specialized in the ethnology of Amazonia, focussing on the relations of native societies with their environment. Besides his field research with the Jivaroan Achuar to which he has devoted two monographs, he has published extensively on the ‘anthropology of nature’, a comparative approach of the relations between humans and non-humans.
