George Bernard Shaw, (born July 26, 1856, Dublin, Ire.—died Nov. 2, 1950, Ayot St. Lawrence, Hertfordshire, Eng.), Irish playwright and critic. After moving to London in 1876, he worked for years as a music and art critic, wrote book and theatre reviews, and was an active member of the socialist Fabian Society.
George Bernard Shaw was an Anglo-Irish playwright and political activist. Born and schooled in Dublin, he came to England in 1876. He educated himself by reading in the British Museum, and started his writing career as a music and literary critic for several periodicals. After unsuccessful attempts at novel writing, Shaw turned to drama.
There are many facets to the life and work of George Bernard Shaw. He was, among other things, a socialist, an activist, an intellectual, a playwright, an author and a critic. George Bernard Shaw (Dublin, 26. srpnja 1856. – Ayot St. Lawrence, 2. studenog 1950.) bio je irski dramatičar. Autor je brojnih duhovitih komada. U Dublinu je učio za trgovačkog pomoćnika, a 1876. seli se u London. Bavio se i muzičkom i kazališnom kritikom, a 1925. je dobio Nobelovu nagradu za književnost.
George Bernard Shaw (26 July 1856 – 2 November 1950) was an Irish writer. He won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1925. His best known works are his plays, some of which were made into movies. He wrote many plays about political problems, and those plays sometimes gave him enemies.
