31 de ene. de 2012 · For “There You Are,” his solo exhibition at Lehmann Maupin, Sandro Kopp has taken the idea of the mediated portrait into the digital era. Consisting of a series of real-time portraits that Kopp did of subjects that sat for him not in the flesh, but rather via Skype, the exhibition marries the practice of 19th-century oil painting with modern communication.
Sandro Kopp. Producer: Okja. Sandro Kopp was born 1978 in Heidelberg, Germany, of New Zealand and German descent. He is an fine artist, primarily known for portraits painted via Skype. He graduated from Abitur 1998, majoring in Fine Art and English. In 2000, he moved to New Zealand, his mother's home country. Here he painted and exhibited, as well as teaching at an art school in Wellington.

In 2018, Sandro Kopp was tasked by film director Wes Anderson with creating ten monumental paintings for the film The French Dispatch in less than three months. Kopp’s works needed to look like the work of a singular genius (the fictional “criminally insane” artist Moses Rosenthaler, played by Benicio Del Toro) who had created the work while imprisoned over three years.
