18 de oct. de 2021 · Samuel Goldwyn (born Szmuel Gelbfisz (c. July 1879 – January 31, 1974), also known as Samuel Goldfish, was an American film producer. He was most well known for being the founding contributor and executive of several motion picture studios in Hollywood.

Early life. Goldwyn was born in Los Angeles, California, the son of actress Jennifer Howard and film producer Samuel Goldwyn Jr. Goldwyn's paternal grandparents were mogul Samuel Goldwyn, a Polish Jewish immigrant from Warsaw, and actress Frances Howard, who was originally from Nebraska. His maternal grandparents were playwright Sidney Howard and actress Clare Eames.

Samuel Goldwyn Films is the current independent film company of Samuel Goldwyn, Jr. formed in 1999, two years after his former production company was folded into MGM and transferred most of the library into it, even though he started producing and distributing independent movies later on. After Samuel Goldwyn, Jr. died on January 9, 2015, his son Peter has been co-running the company.

Samuel Goldwyn was born Schmuel Gelbfisz, the oldest of six children in a family of Hasidic Jews in Warsaw, during summer of 1879. (Previously most published sources including Goldwyn himself, claimed to have been born in 1882.) At age 15, Schmuel’s father died.
