Nick Halsey, impiegato da sedici anni nella stessa azienda, nella stessa giornata perde il lavoro e la moglie Catherine lo lascia facendogli trovare un biglietto e tutte le sue cose sparse fuori casa.
Nick intenta superar su adicción al alcohol. Tras la última recaída es despedido y su mujer lo echa de casa. Con todas sus cosas esparcidas por el jardín, pretende seguir con su vida como si fuera algo normal, pero unos amigos le ayudarán a ver que tiene que abandonarlo todo y comenzar de nuevo.
