The Asphalt Jungle is an intriguing story of a million-dollar jewel heist in a bleak and nameless mid-western city from the director of such hard-boiled classics as The Maltese Falcon (1941), The Treasure of Sierra Madre (1948), and Key Largo (1948). Based on the novel by W.T. Burnett, The Asphalt Jungle offered moviegoers in 1950 a new view of crime.
6 de jul. de 2004 · "The Asphalt Jungle" (1950) is commonly considered the original heist film. I see parallels with "Baby Driver" (2017), which also makes my all-time favorite movie list. "The Asphalt Jungle" and "Baby Driver" were made 67 years apart, but they're both heist films where the main character wants to escape the city and a life of crime.

23 de nov. de 2022 · The Asphalt Jungle lijkt inderdaad wel een blauwdruk voor de heistfilm, al is het opvallend hoe rustig Huston het verhaal ontvouwt en eerst de karakters en de onderlinge relaties wat ontwikkelt. Wie de film opzet voor spanning en sensatie, zal zich tijdens de eerste drie kwartier wellicht wat achter de oren krabben, en ook daarna schijnt dat soort actie nauwelijks Hustons beoogde effect.
