Born in Brooklyn, NY Lawrence Tierney was the son of a policeman, also named Lawrence Tierney, and his wife, Mary. Both of his brothers, Gerard and Edward, also became actors, with Gerard billing himself as Scott Brady and enjoying a lengthy career playing tough guys not unlike his brother, while Edward left the business after a string of minor roles to become a building contractor.

Lawrence Tierney was in my opinion, a real force of nature, a real rebel, who for some reason, manage to find success in Hollywood in spite of his antics. I genuinely think Tierney could of been in great movies in the 50s but his antics pretty much ruined that. I am not going to sugar coat it, Tierney was a Basterds.
The day his mother killed herself in 1960, Tierney was arrested for breaking down a woman's door and assaulting her boyfriend. His torso still bears scars from an ill-advised tussle with a practiced knife-fighter. Unpredictable, incorrigible, and belligerent—that's always been the book on Tierney.
