Takeshi Kitano (Japans: 北野 武, Kitano Takeshi) (Tokio, 18 januari 1947) is een Japans komiek, filmregisseur, acteur, schrijver, schilder en kunstenaar.In Japan is hij beter bekend onder zijn toneelnaam Beat Takeshi (ビートたけし, Bīto Takeshi).Hij is wereldwijd vooral bekend geworden van de door hem bedachte spelshow Takeshi's Castle.

Né à Tokyo, Takeshi Kitano commence sa carrière comme comédien en 1972. Un an après, il monte un duo avec son partenaire Kiyoshi Kaneko, et prend pour nom de scène Beat Takeshi. Le duo passe à la télévision pour la première fois en 1975 et trois ans plus tard devient très populaire au Japon.

Though his father, Kikujiro, painted houses, the little Takeshi suspected (or perhaps the later media star mythologized) the often drunk old man he and his siblings feared was a failed yakuza.
