He collapsed and died of heart failure two weeks afterwards, on the morning of 19 April 1992, aged 75. Two hours before he died, he was speaking on the telephone to his TV producer about new ideas for his next show. It is fairly well known that Frankie had been approached to star in the revival 'Carry On' film - 'Carry On Columbus' in 1992.
