The Awakening is een Britse bovennatuurlijke drama- horrorfilm uit 2011 onder regie van Nick Murphy, die samen met Stephen Volk ook het verhaal schreef. Hij won hiervoor de Gouden Raaf van het Brussels International Festival of Fantastic Film 2012 en zowel de SCI FI juryprijs als de jeugdjuryprijs van het Gérardmer Film Festival 2012.

The story takes place in 1921, in the aftermath of World War I.Florence Cathcart (Hall) is a driven paranormal debunker who is called to a boys' boarding school by teacher Robert Mallory (West) to investigate an alleged haunting there.
Florence Cathcart (Rebecca Hall) stands out in the London of the twenties for being a free-thinker and a debunker of the supernatural. A boarding school teacher (Dominic West) implores her to visit his school following the death of a pupil, where unexplained sightings are being reported. Florence isn't a total sceptic.

29 de ene. de 2016 · It’s a really well made film that I will certainly return to in the future. If you are looking for a more intelligent horror film than say the pure gore of the Saw series then this is for you. It’s a 2011 film so no problems with sound & picture. The Awakening (2011) blu-ray is available now from Amazon.

The Awakening speelt zich af in 1921, in een naoorlogse tijd van wanhoop en verlies waar de nabestaanden hun troost zoeken in spiritualiteit. Achtervolgd door de dood van haar verloofde, brengt Florence haar tijd door met het ontmaskeren van bovennatuurlijke verschijnselen.
