The only reason I gave this album four stars instead of five is that I didn't think it ranked up there with The Chambers Brothers' absolute best stuff, but, Hell, that's just my opinion. I have to say that the version of PEOPLE GET READY on this CD truly rivals the great later version on ...
Hailing from rural Mississippi, the Chambers brothers--George, Willie, Lester, and Joe--began performing in Los Angeles in 1964. White drummer Brian Keenan joined in 1965 (making the band one of the era’s few racially integrated groups), and PEOPLE GET READY, the band’s debut, appeared that same year.
