The school opened its doors as a high school on September 17, 1888. The first students were required to pay a small tuition to help defray the cost of running the school.

I started my teaching career as an English and Theater teacher at Blackville-Hilda High School, and I eventually made it back to my alma mater, South Aiken High School, teaching English. After 4 years of teaching, I transitioned to assistant principal at Aiken High.
