I think it's clear Todd is more excited whenever he gets to be a pop music historian, rather than a pop music critic. Which is why Trainwreckords and OHW have been where his best work is for a long time, imo. And also it explains why he would pick a song like this to cover in a review, because its a song that has a history behind it to discuss.
It's not a mature song but it's a mature performance. Honestly, that's a great point. I hadn't thought about it but that might be why teens connect to it, and why older people like it too. It does touch some nostalgia buttons for a lot of people, especially since we are all so sad thanks to the Rona situation.
