The dark-punk movement peaked with the abstract, conceptual, dub-drenched sound of Public Image Ltd, the band formed by Johnny "Rotten" Lydon after the Sex Pistols split up, and featuring bassist Jah Wobble and guitarist Keith Levene. First Issue (1978) announced a new form of music: ponderous rhythm, distorted guitar, demented screams.

Public Image Ltd, förkortat PiL, är ett postpunkband från England. John Lydon (även känd som Johnny Rotten) startade bandet sedan han lämnade Sex Pistols, tillsammans med bland annat Keith Levene, som har spelat med tidiga The Clash och Sid Vicious. [ 1] Bandet har haft en rad medlemmar med Lydon som den enda fasta medlemmen.
