Dancer in the Dark is a 2000 musical drama directed by Lars von Trier and starring Björk.. Björk plays Selma Ježková, a Czech immigrant to the U.S. State of Washington in The '60s.She lives with her son, Gene Ježek (Vladica Kostic) in a trailer home owned by town policeman Bill Houston (David Morse) and his wife Linda Houston (Cara Seymour), and works at a factory.

Le 17 mai 2000, il y a quasiment vingt-deux ans jour pour jour, le réalisateur danois Lars von Trier présentait en compétition officielle son nouveau film, Dancer in the Dark, au 53ème Festival de Cannes.. Quelques jours plus tard, le 21 mai, le film était couronné de la Palme d'Or et du Prix d'interprétation féminine pour Björk.
