Billy Ray Lathum was born on January 28, 1938 in a log cabin in Wild Cat Corner, Arkansas. One of Billy Ray’s earliest memories was listening to a Grand Ole Opry show featuring Bill Monroe, Flatt & Scruggs, Chubby Wise and Cedrick Rainwater singing “Rollin’ In My Sweet Baby’s Arms” on a battery-operated radio that his father bought from Sears & Robuck.
