Faust IV is the fourth studio album by the German krautrock group Faust, released in 1973. The album is included in the book 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die, where it is referred to as a "krautrock classic". This was the last album by the first incarnation of the band, they returned in 1994 with the release of Rien featuring a different line-up.
By 1973 they had developed a small but devoted following, leading to the release of ‘Faust IV’ the band’s most accessible record. It begins with the 11 minute epic ‘Krautrock’, an intense assemblage of swirling metallic drones laid over primitive drum beats.

Mind-boggling experience going into the then-new Virgin Megastore in Oxford St around 1979 and seeing a rack with about 50 sealed copies of this for £1.99 each. Most record shops in those days only had one copy of each album out in the racks. All the others were behind the counter.
"Faust IV" is a great album by a great band. This expanded edition is a welcome addition to their discography as it has a second disc of previously unreleased material. However, a lot of this bonus material also appear on the "Wümme Years 1970-73" 5 CD box set released in 2000, although with some songs under alternate titles.
