Luise Straus-Ernst, born on May 14, 1893, in Cologne, Germany, was an accomplished art historian, journalist, and one of the first women to earn a doctorate in art history at the University of Bonn. She married the influential Dadaist artist Max Ernst in 1918, and they became active members of the avant-garde art scene in Cologne.
