This martyr to freedom was one of the bravest women in our history and one of the most decorated, only the second female recipient of the George Cross for bravery, and also the Croix de Guerre and La Medaille de la Resistance. She was a member of the Special Operations Executive (SOE) and her name was Violette Szabo.

The croix de guerre avec étoile de bronze was awarded by the French government in 1947 and the Médaille de la Résistance in 1973. As one of the SOE agents who died for the liberation of France, Lieutenant Violette Szabo, FANY, is listed on the Valençay SOE Memorial.
16 de mar. de 2022 · In the UK, the Violette Szabo GC Museum in Herefordshire occupies a cottage formerly owned by Violette’s cousins. Celebration of the centenary of Violette’s birth was held there in 2021. As an adult, Violette’s daughter Tania, wrote a biography concentrating on her mother’s experiences in France.
