The winter headquarters for the Ringling Circus remained here for 60 years, beginning in 1927. Clown College was also located in Venice, FL, from 1968 to 1996. It hosted two final cohorts of clowns in Sarasota before closing in 1997.

  4. 28 de ago. de 2023 · On September 1, 1968, the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Clown College opened its doors, giving the world a new generation of entertainers. Irvin Feld established the college in Venice, Florida, as the first school to exclusively train circus clowns. Feld was born in Maryland on May 9, 1918, to Russian-Jewish immigrants.

The most famous clown college was The Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Clown College. It trained around 1,400 clowns between 1968 to 1997 and notable alumni include Penn Jillette and Stephen “Steve-O” Glover.

The Ringling brothers (originally Rüngling) were five American siblings who transformed their small touring company of performers into one of the largest circuses in the United States during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Four brothers were born in McGregor, Iowa: Alfred T., Charles, John and Henry William, and the family lived in McGregor for twelve years, from 1860 until 1872.
