Rabbits is a surrealist film, and surrealism concerns the rejection of logic or reality. I don't think David Lynch wanted viewers to attempt to make broad rational conclusions concerning the purpose or argument of the film. "It's a film about rabbits" is more than enough in explaining the plot or content of the film.
