It is said that everyone has a soul mate, someone with whom they are destined to fall in love and be with for the rest of their lives, regardless of age, gender, geography.....or, it seems, species. Splash is a 1984 fantasy romantic comedy directed by Ron Howard, surrounding the fairy-tale romance between Allen Bauer and the mermaid (Daryl Hannah) who rescued him from drowning as a boy.

The beloved movie that stars Tom Hanks and Daryl Hannah in a mermaid-out-of-water romantic comedy went through an unjustified edit that left many wondering what Disney would do to maintain its family-friendly brand.
But audiences did believe, making Splash one of the surprise hits of 1984. It received an Academy nomination for Best Original Screenplay, grossed more than $69 million at the U.S. box-office and elevated newcomers Tom Hanks and Daryl Hannah to superstar status.
