20 de ago. de 2021 · Following a 1982 group hiatus, Yellow Magic Orchestra’s members reconvened in October 1982 to record Naughty Boys, a “comeback” record that on the Oricon LP Chart shot to #1. Instead of continuing BGM and Technodelic ’s experimentation, Naughty Boys shows YMO (with former Be-Bop Deluxe frontman Bill Nelson on guitar) crafting polished bubblegum J-pop.

Yellow Magic Orchestra (YMO) at the legendary Budokan venue in Tokyo, Japan. Recorded on December 27th, 1980 during their “FROM TOKIO TO TOKYO” tour. It was initially broadcast on FUJI-TV on December 31st, 1980– and later saw a home video release in 1993.
Yellow Magic Orchestra’s debut was successful, but a little gimmicky. On their sophomore album, they refine their sound to the sophisticated synth-pop that they’re best known for. Curiously, Solid State Survivor wasn’t released in the US until 1992, although some tracks were released on the US version of 1980’s X∞Multiplies .
