International Financial Reporting Standards, commonly called IFRS, are accounting standards issued by the IFRS Foundation and the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB).

The IASB was formed in 2001 to replace the International Accounting Standards Committee (IASC). A full history of the IASB and the IASC going back to 1973 is available on the IASB website. Currently, the IASB has 14 members.
The IFRS Foundation states that its mission is to develop IFRS Standards that bring transparency, accountability and efficiency to financial markets around the world, and that their work serves the public interest by fostering trust, growth and long-term financial stability in the global economy.
