SCHMIDT, WILHELM (1868 – 1954), German anthropologist and Roman Catholic priest, was born on February 16, 1868, in H ö rde (now Dortmund-H ö rde) Germany, the son of a factory worker. In 1883 he entered the missionary school in Steyl, Netherlands, that served as the motherhouse of the Societas Verbi Divini (the Society of the Divine Word), which was founded in 1875.

Biografía. Después de un aprendizaje como tipógrafo y cuatro años en el ejército Wilhelm Schmid se graduó en el Bayern Augsburg College en 1980. El mismo año se emprendió estudios de filosofía y historia en la Universidad Libre de Berlín, en la Sorbona de París y en la Universidad de Tübingen, estudios que finalizó en 1991, con una tesis doctoral sobre Michel Foucault.
