John Charles Sholto Douglas, born 19th March 1927 in Hampshire, was the son of Charles William Sholto Douglas and Florence Timson. He succeeded his cousin and became the 21st Earl of Morton in 1976. He was head of the male line of the Douglas family. The 21st Earl petitioned the Lord Lyon King of Arms for the title of Chief of Douglas.
