Mina Crandon. Mina Margery Crandon (1888–November 1, 1941) grew up on a farm in Princeton, Ontario but moved to Boston as a young woman. While working as a secretary of a local church in Boston, she met and married Earl Rand, a grocer. They had one son.

Houdini insisted that Scientific American publish an expose of Mina Crandon, but the editors held off. He then published a 40-page pamphlet, Houdini Exposes the tricks used by the Boston Medium “Margery” to win the $2500 prize offered by the Scientific American. He also took to exposing Mina Crandon’s tricks during his stage show.
