After Letitia’s father died on May 26, 1863 in Danville, KY she and her mother moved to live with Letitia’s sister, Mrs. Julia Scott, who was living in Chenoa, IL at the time.4 Her sister’s husband, Matthew Scott, was a wealthy and well known landowner in the area.5 While Letitia lived there, Adlai Stevenson I courted her for three years.
