It was released by New Line Cinema on January 12, 1990. The film is a sequel to the previous movies (1974 and 1986), as only Leatherface had survived the events of the previous film. It is the third installment in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise. The film stars Kate Hodge , Ken Foree , William Butler, and a then-unknown Viggo Mortensen.
