Kanakalatha had fallen ill in 2021 and was under the care of her sister, Vijayamma. Initially presenting with symptoms of sleeplessness, her condition was diagnosed with dementia in August 2022.
The 63-year-old passed away due to her prolonged illness on May 6 at her home in Malayinkeezhu in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. Kanakalatha has proactively worked in Malayalam and Tamil film industries for the last four decades. Reportedly, she has worked in more than 360 films during her course of career and garnered a lot of love, fame and respect.
