29 de may. de 2008 · Interview with Red West. Red West was born Robert Gene West in Memphis, Tennessee in 1936, the son of Lois and Newton Thomas West. He was a high school friend of Elvis Presley. An excellent athlete and former U.S. Marine, West played football for his high school and junior college teams and was a boxer in the Golden Gloves championships.
By 1955 Red West was already acting as a driver for Elvis and his band members as they toured the Southern states performing their early live concerts.In 1960 following Elvis’ army discharge Red West went to work for Elvis full-time primarily as a bodyguard.
