That much-relished character actor Maurice Denham, who has died aged 92, was virtually a one-man chronicle of the decay of the respectable classes.
Maurice Denham, född 23 december 1909 i Beckenham, Kent, död 24 juli 2002 i London, var en brittisk skådespelare. Denham gjorde scendebut 1932. Sedan filmdebuten 1947 medverkade han i många filmer, men fick sina största framgångar på 1970-talet, bland annat i Söndag, satans söndag 1971 och Julia 1977.
Maurice Denham stars as John Mortimer's famous comic creation Rumpole of the Bailey. Defender of the underdog, friend of South London villains and scourge of QCs, much-loved barrister Horace Rumpole was first brought to life on television, and in 1980 BBC Radio 4 introduced him to the airwaves for a 13-episode series.
