Artist bios. The Rentals were the new wave-influenced project of singer/songwriter Matt Sharp, former bassist for power pop favorites Weezer. Born in Arlington, Virginia, on September 22, 1969, Sharp co-founded Weezer in 1992, and in the months to follow, the band emerged as one of the most popular up-and-coming acts on the Los Angeles club ...
Le second disque des Rentals, Seven More Minutes, est lancé le 13 avril 1999. Font partie de la seconde mouture: Rod Cervera (guitare), Petra Haden (qui prend la place de Cherielynn Westrich comme principale voix féminine), Jim Richards (en remplacement de Tom Grimley au clavier moog), Kevin March (à la batterie à la place de Patrick Wilson ) et Maya Rudolph (voix sur 2 chansons).
The second Rentals album, "Seven More Minutes", followed a year later. After an extended hiatus, The Rentals returned with "The Last Little Life EP" in 2007. Their third studio album, "Lost In Alphaville", appeared in 2014, featuring an entirely new group lineup.

While I've always been a fan of The Rentals, Q36 resonated with me more than any of their albums had before. I think I liked the spacier/darker content, for one. But also, I think the band's "classic alt-rock sound" just sounds so much more refreshing to me now when it feels like there are less bands who sound like that (or who do it quite as well).
