The band immediately veered towards a less radical “ shoegazing ” sound with the singles “ Highrise Love” and “Waiting for the Angels” (à la Doors lullaby, gospel organ. and celestial guitar chords).

The duo were soon joined by Pete Bain (Pete Bassman) on bass, and Tim Morris on drums. Pierce had to leave Rugby temporarily, so both new members went to join another band. Upon Pierce’s return, the band changed their name to Spacemen 3, and enlisted drummer Natty Brooker, to record their first demo tape in 1984
