I am delighted to welcome you to St Kieran’s College, our diocesan Secondary School by means of this prospectus. Since we first began in 1782 St Kieran’s College has remained faithful to its original mission and ethos: the education and formation of each student to the highest standards, based on the values of the Gospel.
St Kieran’s College, which is a Diocesan College under the patronage of the Bishop of Ossory, was founded in 1782. In fact records show that on the 12th October, 1782 a lease was signed for an old house in Kilkenny making St Kieran’s the oldest Catholic College in the country and ‘the first Catholic College in the Kingdom’.
It is what we do in St Kieran’s College. To verify this we need only reflect on the continued breadth of achievements of our students which in this past year saw five of them attain the maximum points in their Leaving Certificate, 10% get 550 points or more, 20% get 500 points or more, 40% get 450 points or more and 51% get 400 points or more.
St Kieran’s College, as Ireland’s oldest Catholic Secondary School and Diocesan College, continues its founding aim of the pursuit of real excellence in education and faith formation, in the light of the Gospel, so as to allow all our students, and all who visit the College or avail of its many services on or off-campus, to realise the fullness of their God-given potential.
