It was the band's second album (following 1970's Osmium), and their first to be released on Casablanca Records. The album was released on July 3, 1974. Its title track was Parliament's first chart hit and remains one of the most well-known P-Funk songs.
Includes the shorter 3:29 mix of (A2) "Testify". An earlier pressing of Up For The Down Stroke includes a longer mix of 4:04. Label rim text says "Manufactured and Distributed by Casablanca Records, Inc / Made in U.S.A." Recorded at United Sound - Detroit, Crystal Sound Studios and Hollywood Sound - Los Angeles. Mastered at Allen Zentz Mastering.
