This imaginative recording was laid down on the last two nights of the quintet’s stint at the Village Vanguard: Saturday and Sunday, July 9th and 10th 1988, in a DDD formate. Many have questioned why this was not recorded as an analog event, with that due to Johnsons love, passion and fascination for electronics, wishing for listeners to hear the smallest details.
