They would give some great rockers like "Getting Closer," or "Old Siam Sir" (the latter very much a slow burning punk song.) They did not shy away from softer numbers however, including the album's most beautiful ballad, "Winter Rose/Love Awake," the most heavily produced and arranged song on the album.

Lacking a standout single, Back To The Egg didn’t see quite the sales of his previous releases. It did go Platinum in the US and Gold in the UK.

The album saw Paul work alongside producer Chris Thomas, who had trained as a producer during recording of The Beatles’ 1968 eponymous classic (the White Album).
